Let’s go fishing! In this class, students will explore various projects that incorporate fish and the many creatures that live within the sea. Students will use a variety of materials to create three-dimensional and two-dimensional projects inspired by illustrators Leo Lionni and Eric Carle and the coral reef. Be prepared to get messy and a little wet too!

This class will introduce participants to a variety of embroidery techniques including different stitches, appliqué, ribbon embroidery, and simple beading techniques. We will also explore how these techniques have been used by different cultures.

Have you ever drawn something with gills? Sculpted something using a soda can? Carved an eraser to make insects? Using a variety of media and art-making techniques, including printmaking, sculpture, watercolor, painting and drawing, students will create three-dimensional and two-dimensional works of art that explore real-life and fantasy creatures.

Learn about the various styles and types of comics and cartoons. Then create your own characters, develop a storyline and setting, and learn how to add texture, depth, and variation to your panels! By the final session you will be able to put together a professional-style comic book!

This class offers students an opportunity to explore alternative materials for creating art, like cardboard, newspaper, and plastic. Students will learn about professional artists who make work that is focused on material and eco-friendly practices. Through imagination, experimentation and observation we will transform our discoveries into extraordinary works of art.

This workshop will introduce participants to basic embroidery stitches and techniques. Participants will learn methods of transferring designs to fabric and discuss ideas for using embroidery to embellish clothing and household items.

Sumi ink brush painting is an East Asian style of painting with long traditions and practices. Through demonstrations and practice, explore the art’s concepts of line, brush stroke and composition with a focus on the plum, chrysanthemum and bamboo. Learn to express yourself through this unique cultural style.

Come and create sculpture!  On day one we will build a mythological creature from papier mache.  On day two, we will paint and embellish our creatures and create habitats for them using cut paper sculpture techniques.  Please dress to get messy!

Learn the basics of outdoor landscape painting with pastels. Students will meet in various locations, observe works of established artists for technique and composition, and create landscapes on site. Group sharing and discussion helps to expand understanding of technique. Enjoy the outdoors and create your own masterpieces!

Discover transparent watercolor techniques and media! Themes will include still life, landscape, the figure in the environment, and architecture. Beginners are welcome! More advanced students will have opportunities for greater experimentation and expression.

A morning of family fun! Participants will construct and decorate Halloween masks using a cardboard base and paper sculpture methods. Masks will be decorated with yarn, sequins, feathers and other materials. Prices are per pair.
