ARTsites Up Close: The Shooting Star by Catherin Hoskinson
An omen of good luck, an inspiration, a flash of connection to the universe—a shooting star can bring hope and wonder. The Shooting Star by Catherin Hoskinson is composed of two long-cut shapes slotted together, with two wings attached, resembling a paper airplane or a crystal. The filigree drawing describes waves of light, a cutwork the artist has used in the past to refer to hands in flight. It is also a meditation on the sculpture as a monument, in this case, of a fleeting moment.
