January 2026:

HoCo Arts has moved operations to the Capitoline Center in Historic Ellicott City at 8360 Court Ave | The HoCo Arts staff are available by phone or email during regular office hours, M–F, 9am–5pm | The building is currently closed to the public.

Explore different cultures of the world and their unique art. This camp will look at prominent artists from around the globe, with campers creating work using the techniques we encounter.

Campers will indulge and enjoy their artistic side while using a variety of mediums to expand their artistic palette. Explorations will include painting, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture and collage. Camp will culminate in the presentation of a gallery show.

Junk journals, art journals, scrapbooks, and more! This week we are exploring different ways to express yourself- from doodles to watercolor to collage- we are incorporating it all in our journals this week!

In this camp, students will learn various techniques while being introduced to different historic artist and movements. There will be a focus on the following: Matisse, Picasso, Seurat, O’Keefe. Techniques will include paper cutouts/collage, monochromatic painting, pointillism, watercolor, woodblock/foam prints, abstract, minimalism, color theory and still life.

In this hands-on course, students will develop 2D abstract compositions each session. Design problems are simple given at the begiing of the session and with on going desk crits students will complete their designs.

Anyone who has collected seashells at the beach knows that they can be unique, brightly colored, and diverse. Campers will have fun learning about the beach and the Chesapeake Bay while using a variety of materials including real shells to create 2D and 3D artworks.

Campers will love this fun and colorful way to express themselves! Not only will campers create their own beads out of different media, but they will make jewelry, keychains, and also learn both flat and three-dimensional bead weaving, among other projects.

Campers will learn cartoon art-related skills to create and develop their own cartoon characters, use cartoon expressions and movement to create dynamic comic strip art, and write and develop content for telling a story using their characters.

Campers will learn the basics of cross stitching including different stitch types and how to follow and stitch along with a pattern. After mastering these skills, campers are invited to create an original pattern of their own.
