Our annual ARTsites exhibit presents a wide variety of artistic styles and media, but this year, two of our sculptures have more in common than meets the eye. Though very different in appearance, Remembering Giotto (installed at The Arc of Howard County), and Remembering Brancusi (installed at Howard County Government’s George Howard Building) were both created by artist Glenn Zweygardt. Giotto, an homage to the renowned Renaissance painter, demands attention with its shiny steel base and brightly colored appendages, while Brancusi makes a quieter statement, honoring one of the pioneers of Modernism with statuesque lines and subdued copper and earth tones. The use of such divergent styles and materials is a hallmark of Glenn’s work.
Since retiring as a Professor of Sculpture at New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University, Glenn has devoted himself full-time to his art. His home and studio are located in Alfred Station, New York. His sculptures have been included in seven ARTsites exhibits, and two of his sculptures – Autumn Amber and Basalt Man – were purchased and are on permanent display at Howard Community College.
ARTsites 2018 sculptures will be in place through July 2019. Our ARTsites 2018 brochure is now available. Call 410-313-ARTS (2787) to request your copy.
