Throughout history, the challenge of shifting light and the expressive possibilities of spontaneous decision-making have captivated landscape artists from Corot and Monet to Ryder and Bellows. This two-day plein air workshop, suitable for all levels, will explore painting techniques for quickly rendering light and composing a one-off landscape (a painting done in one session, from start to finish). We will explore the basics of depicting form through value and tackle the nuances of color to capture the emotive qualities of the landscape. Day one will meet at the Arts Council; day two will be spent on site at Clark’s Elioak Farm on Clarksville Pike, amid the spectacle of attractions from The Enchanted Forest.
Open Paint registration is included, so by the end of the workshop, you will be able to take your new skills to the streets of Ellicott City to join the other Paint It! Ellicott City paint-out artists and be included in the Open Paint Artists’ exhibit at the Arts Council on Monday, July 1. For more information on Paint It! Ellicott City, click here.
NOTE: While the course instructor will be working in oil paint, all media are welcome. The French-style Julian easel is recommended. A complete materials list for oil painting is available here.
