Our studio programs provide affordable creative work space for practicing artists in a supportive, nurturing environment.
The Howard County Arts Council offers three unique studio programs for local artists:
The Resident Visual Artist Program at the Howard County Center for the Arts provides studio space as well as opportunities for professional and social engagement within a lively, multidisciplinary community arts center. Artists may work independently, connect and exchange ideas with fellow artists, exhibit their work, and engage with the public during scheduled open studio events.
The Long Reach Artist Studio Program offers small, affordable makerspaces in Long Reach Village Center in Columbia.
The Emerging Artist Studio Program provides a short-term studio placement at the Howard County Center for the Arts to assist an artist in the formative stages of their career in a supportive, convivial environment.
Artists working in a variety of fine arts styles and media are encouraged to apply. Most studios feature abundant natural light. Artists in all three programs have access to water and 24-hour access to their studio space.
Please note, due to building infrastructure at both locations, studios are not well-suited for performing artists, large scale artwork, or disciplines such as metal forging, welding, stone and wood carving, or kiln work, among others. Any work that requires heavy equipment, bulky materials, or a loading dock is not feasible.
