With our ARTsites 2019 sculptures now in place, it’s time to learn a little more about them. First up is Chris Plaisted’s The Door in the Woods, installed at Clarksville Commons.
Crafted of copper and steel, The Door in the Woods nestles harmoniously among the native plantings in the Commons courtyard. Its fusion of primary colors, contrasting metals, and freeform shapes lends an air of mystery and enchantment to the space. The use of diverse materials and finishes is not accidental. “I believe that the opposing materials, or colors in my work intensify each element’s properties to produce a more dynamic form of expression,” says Plaisted.
Plaisted, who was born into a family of artists, learned woodcarving and metalwork from a neighbor at an early age. He received his formal art training at Parsons The New School for Design in New York City and currently makes his home in New Milford, Connecticut. This is his first ARTsites exhibit.
ARTsites 2019 sculptures will be on display through July 2020. Our new ARTsites brochure will soon be available – call 410-313-ARTS (2787) to reserve your copy.
