We recently welcomed Sara Engel to the Center for the Arts as our newest resident artist.
Sara is an eclectic artist whose primary medium is stained glass. She has studied traditional media for over 15 years, and applies her skills and knowledge of painting and design to craft unique glass compositions using the Tiffany copper foil method. Her background in Art History supplies historical context to inform and build a foundation from which she aims to expand the stained glass medium into the 21st Century.
Sara received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from Longwood University. She enjoys creating portraiture in both digital and film photography, focusing on tattooed figures as well as portraying personal struggles with depression to advocate for productive conversations about the stigma surrounding mental health. When she’s not working in glass or the darkroom, Sara is a painting instructor for Muse Paintbar. She also enjoys knitting and fiber arts, playing roller derby, tabletop and video games, making music, and spending time with her cats.
