With our ARTsites 2020 sculptures now in place, we’d like to share a little more about them and the artists behind the work. First up is Charlie Brouwer’s Ordinary Person, installed at Corporate Office Properties Trust.
In keeping with its humble title, Ordinary Person is simply constructed of black locust wood and deck screws, an effort by the artist to make the sculpture “approachable and friendly.” Says Brouwer, “Since monuments tend to be about people who are perceived as being ‘special’ in some way – and attitudes about what that means can change over time…I made Ordinary Person as a monument to all of us because, really we all are – just ordinary people.”
This is Brouwer’s fourth ARTsites exhibit; his previously included sculptures include Hope (ARTsites 2013), Happy Wanderers (ARTsites 2014), and Hallelujah (ARTsites 2019).
ARTsites 2020 sculptures will be on display through July 2021. Our new ARTsites brochure will be available soon – email info@hocoarts.org to reserve your copy.
