An intentional misspelling of virtual isolation, Futural Eyesoulation is wordplay on current societal trends, where distancing and remote technology platforms encourage human isolation. The sculpture, installed at Howard Community College, is a reflection of artist Anthony Heinz May’s observation that our increased reliance on acquiring information through “computerized imagery composed of pixels deletes knowledge found in tangible reality through experience of physical place and space, making physical being a byproduct of the past and unnecessary for existing in the new age.”
Raised in the Pacific Northwest, May now lives in Brooklyn, New York. His primary sculptural material is the wood from dead trees, which he manipulates and alters to create installations commenting on man’s fractured relationship with nature. This is May’s first ARTsites exhibit.
ARTsites 2020 sculptures will be on display through July 2021. To request a copy of our ARTsites 2020 brochure, email info@hocoarts.org, or click here to view photos of the sculptures online.
