HCAC’s Visual & Performing Arts Camps
June 27 – August 26
Summer is almost here, but don’t worry – there’s still time to plan an arts-filled summer for your child by enrolling them in our Visual & Performing Arts Camps! Choose from nine one-week, full- or half-day sessions for students entering grades K-7. Morning and afternoon extended care is also available.
Here’s a small sampling of our available camps:
Superhero Secret Origins
Session 7, PM: August 8-12, Grades 4-7
POW! BAM! CRASH! Calling all those with an interest in all things superhero! Come fly, smash, stretch, and swing into this comic-creating course from illustrator (and HCAC Camp Director!) Miles Warren. Starting with basic drawing skills and working up to visual storytelling through composition, light and shadow, and character design, this class will have you ready to create your own tales of good vs. evil!
Storytime Shakespeare: Romances
Session 8, PM: August 15-19, Grades K-3
Our youngest campers will spend their mornings warming up with theatre games and acting exercises before diving into crafts in the afternoon. Each day will focus on telling the story of a different Shakespeare play in a community circle. We will focus on Shakespeare’s romances like Romeo and Juliet, Two Gentleman of Verona, and Twelfth Night.
Soundscape Slam
Session 9, PM: August 22-26, Grades 4-7
Campers will get to march to the beat of their own drum in this camp. Each day they’ll blast out beats on a musical journey to generate rhythm. Using found objects, body percussion and vocal sounds, campers will learn about being a performer in a welcoming/inclusive environment. Sessions will be tailored to the experience level and abilities of the enrolled campers – first timers and experienced drummers are welcome!
Camp registration is available online at hocoarts.org/camp or by phone at 410-313-2787. Families are encouraged to register early as evolving Covid-19 protocols for the state of Maryland may result in a reduction in the maximum number of enrollments per camp.
