Vasanzio IV ‘A Favor,’ installed at North Laurel Community Center & Park, presents viewers with a paradox. Steven Buduo’s sculpture consists of four beams that appear to be caught between a state of balance and instability. Two beams land on the sculpture’s concrete platform, while a third hovers parallel to the ground and a fourth clings to it for support. Through this work, Buduo explores a variety of hidden synchronicities –equilibrium versus instability, stasis versus movement, structure versus chaos.
The title of the sculpture refers to a series of favors from friends and strangers that made it possible for Buduo to complete the piece, paying homage to the serendipitous string of goodwill that allowed him to continue working at the height of the pandemic. Vasanzio is Buduo’s first ARTsites installation.
