Rep Stage, the professional regional theatre at Howard Community College and an Arts Council grantee, has announced the two shows to be presented during its upcoming and final season: Ghost/Writer, a world premiere production by local playwright Dane Figueroa Edidi, from February 9-26, 2023; and Falsettos, music and lyrics by William Finn and book by William Finn and James Lapine, from April 27 – May 14, 2023.
“These two plays have a personal significance to me for many reasons,” said Joseph W. Ritsch, Rep Stage’s producing artistic director. “Both are pieces that were programmed earlier and lost to pandemic cancellations, and I am so grateful to be able to finally get them produced and out in the world. Dane Edidi, playwright of Ghost/Writer, is one of the most important and necessary new voices in the American theatre and to have the honor to produce a world premiere of her new play is beyond exciting. Falsettos holds a deeply personal place in my heart, as when I saw the off-Broadway production as a young gay man, I finally felt seen. It was the first time I felt like a story not only included gay people but was about gay people. To be directing this as the final production in our 28-year history has great meaning to me and feels very much a full-circle moment as Falsettos was the first musical produced at Rep Stage its very first season.”
In its nearly 30-year history at Howard Community College, Rep Stage has brought engaging, professional theatre to audiences from Howard County and beyond. After much deliberation, HCC has decided to close Rep Stage at the conclusion of this season in order to refocus funding to programs and services that directly serve students.
