The brushed aluminum surfaces of Jeff Chyatte’s sculptures shine with reflected sunlight, their forms playing on science and nature. Helix, installed at the Howard County Government’s George Howard Building, is inspired by the double helix structure of DNA; Labyrinth, located at Howard County General Hospital, represents a never-ending passageway with interwoven elements, each of which are integral to the whole.
With Chyatte’s work described by The Washington Post as “glistening math,” it’s not surprising he lists the ancient Greek mathematician Euclid as a key source of inspiration. When not creating art, Chyatte is a professor in the Biological and Chemical Services Department at Montgomery College. This is his eighth consecutive year as an ARTsites exhibitor.
