Barry Sheehan’s Socrates, currently on display at the ARC of Howard County, was inspired by ancient masks, Polynesian art, and the Mo’ai of Easter Island.
Maryland native Sheehan used traditional blacksmithing techniques learned at Towson University to create his sculpture, heating sheet metal with a torch and then hand hammering it into shape. He enjoys abstracting the figures in his work to encourage an interaction between the audience’s imagination and the sculpture.
ARTsites sculptures will be in place through July 2017. Click here to view all twelve sculptures and venues or call 410-313-ARTS (2787) to request a copy of our ARTsites brochure.
