Blackbird Poetry Festival

Each year, HoCoPoLitSo partners with Howard Community College to bring poetry to the students and residents of Howard County at the all-day Blackbird Poetry Festival on HCC campus.  The festival features poetry workshops, an afternoon reading called “Sunbird,” and concludes with the “Nightbird” evening reading— where, for the first time this year, Howard County Executive Dr. Calvin Ball will be welcomed on stage to announce the inaugural Howard County Poet Laureate!

The all-day event includes a student workshop at 11 a.m. and poetry reading at 2 p.m., both free to the public and in the Science, Technology, Engineering Building.  The event culminates with a special Nightbird Reading featuring guest artist Nate Marshall, titled “Poetry, Speak Easy.”  Free tickets must be reserved to attend the evening reading in the Rouse Company Studio Theatre, which includes complimentary light refreshments, live music, and more!  Doors open at 6:30 p.m.  Seating is limited— reserve your general admission and learn more at the link above.
