The Arts Council is seeking panelists to serve on our Artistic Review Panel (ARP). We award over $600,000 annually in operating and special project grants through several grant programs including: Community Arts Development for Howard County arts organizations, Artists-in-Education for Howard County Schools, and Baltimore City Arts & Cultural Organizations for key Baltimore City organizations.
The ARP is a critical part of the grants review process. The ARP reviews and ranks applications and makes funding recommendations to the HCAC Committee on Grants. HCAC strives to develop a panel that is diverse in gender, ethnicity, age, culture, and artistic disciplines. Panel applicants should be reliable with a commitment to the arts and expertise in an artistic discipline, arts administration, or community arts programming. Commitment includes pre-reviewing applications online
Because of the need to form a well-balanced panel, we may not be able to consider all qualified people who apply.
How It Works
- The job of the panelists is to read all the applications submitted through our on-line grant portal
in advance of 3 scheduled in-person grant reviews and come to the grant reviews to discuss and
evaluate each application. All grant review meetings are held at the Howard County Center for
the Arts at 8510 High Ridge Road in Ellicott City. Panelists unable to meet in-person may join the
meeting virtually via Zoom. - Other time commitments include: interviewing applicants for the July review, preparing written
rationale if unable to attend in-person or virtual meetings, making site visits, if necessary, etc. - Generally, 50-65 applications are reviewed annually.
- Maryland residents with proximity to Howard County. You needn’t be a Howard County resident to serve on the ARP.
-
Currently all spots on the panel are filled, but HCAC will keep yourkeep your form on file for future opportunities.
- Light dinner if panel review is held in-person
- Small honorarium
- Recognition of panel service on HCAC website
