Our newest Resident Emerging Artist at HCCA, Kassamira Carter-Howard, is a black queer multi-disciplinary artist residing in Washington, DC, by way of Portland, OR. She is inspired by concepts of play, black joy, and the nonlinear experience of self-discovery. Her work strives to articulate the complexities that arise within transformation and healing. Rooted in Afrofuturist & Afropresentist praxes, she weaves together mediums like acrylic, watercolor, and textiles to imagine moments in time where black people are thriving and free. Kassamira’s residency runs through June 30, 2024.
