Paint-Out Throughout Ellicott City: July 6-8
Exhibit Reception at HCCA: July 9, 6–8pm
Due to the recent tragic flooding in Historic Ellicott City, we’ve extended the boundaries for our annual plein air paint-out to include the entirety of both Ellicott City zip codes, 21042 & 21043. We encourage artists and spectators to visit some of our recommended sites (including Centennial Park, Clark’s Elioak Farm, Hebron House, the Hollofield Area of Patapsco Valley State Park, and the Shrine of St. Anthony, where you may encounter artists at work — or — grab your brushes and easel and join the fun! For a small registration fee, you can participate in our Open Paint-Out and display your work in the Open Paint exhibit at the Center for the Arts. For more details click here or call 410-313-ARTS (2787).
Paint It! culminates in an exhibit of the juried artists’ work at the Center for the Arts from July 9 to August 17, featuring an opening reception on July 9 with awards presented by guest juror Bennett Vadnais and an exhibit in the Center lobby of work created by Open Paint-Out artists. During the reception, the Arts Council will offer space to local artists and arts businesses, including those directly impacted by flooding, who would like to set up a table for sales, with portions of the proceeds going to our Re-CREATE: Ellicott City Artist Relief Fund. We would also like to thank our award sponsors: The Manelli Family, Patapsco Heritage Greenway, Blossoms of Hope, and the Howard County Office of Tourism & Promotion.
This year’s Paint It! Ellicott City exhibit will also feature a benefit wall in support of the Re-CREATE fund. The wall will feature a collection of work donated by artists who have participated in Paint It! during previous years, or who have painted Ellicott City on their own. This year’s juried artists will have the opportunity to participate in the benefit show as well. A minimum of 50% of the proceeds generated by sales from this wall will go to the Re-CREATE fund.
We’re looking for volunteers to help out during Paint It! Volunteers help in many ways: checking in artists, photographing artists as they paint, setting up for the reception, and more. If you are interested in volunteering, please email info@hocoarts.org.
