The rich red panels and futuristic design of Stephen Klema’s Pandora’s Box present a bold contrast to the pale green facade of the Howard County Library’s Glenwood Branch. At first glance, visitors might wonder if they’ve stumbled onto a new age phone booth – or perhaps a time machine – but according to Klema, the sculpture is part of a series examining “the opposing forces of confinement and escape, echoing the constant push and pull from order to chaos and back again.”
Connecticut artist Klema is a sculptor, designer, and design educator who received his MFA from the Hartford Art School, and his BFA from the Atlanta College of Art. ARTsites 2021 is his fifth ARTsites exhibit.
ARTsites 2021 sculptures will be on display through July 2022. To request a copy of our ARTsites 2021 brochure, email info@hocoarts.org, or click here to download a digital copy.
