Crafted of powder-coated aluminum, Red Bird’s bright red paint and curving forms make a bold statement in its location in front of the Howard County Public School System Administration Building. Designed by artist Richard Pitts to be experienced in the round, the sculpture offers a variety of interpretations depending on the angle from which it is viewed.
Pitts lives and works in New York City and has been exhibiting his sculpture since the late 1960s. His work is shaped largely by intuition, often without a specific plan or message. Pitts hopes to enrich lives by freeing and stimulating the imagination. Red Bird is the fourth of his sculptures included in an ARTsites exhibit. His Orange Twist is currently on extended loan at the Center for the Arts.
ARTsites 2021 sculptures will be on display through July 2022. To request a copy of our ARTsites 2021 brochure, email info@hocoarts.org, or click here to download a digital copy.
